Fishing Muddy Water

Went out to a pond that I have fished before. We have had some rain showers that are great for the gardens and plants, but have washed a lot of dirt into the ponds.

But it is not raining and is a good time to go fishing. Decided to go with unweighted patterns as I can keep them higher in the water column and let fish come up to them. Started with a white palmer chenille fly and a black mohair fur tailed leech. Both of these can be moved very slowly and sink very slowly.

Headed to the east end of the dam and started casting. Got a few small gills and decided to move to some deeper water. Managed to catch a few move small fish. Kept moving across the dam and getting a few fish at each spot.

Got to the west end of the dam and got a decent gill and crappie. The water is shallower here and I wonder fi they are moving in for the spawn.

Fish more in this area and get a few more decent fish.

Wind comes up and it is very hard to detect the very soft bites. Decide it is time to head home.

While I am at the truck putting everything in, I am told that someone came into the pond and used a net to take out a lot of fish. He said he found at least a thousand fish piled up on the shore.

That would explain why I was not catching very many decent sized fish.

Will probably need to leave this pond alone for a few years to let the fish grow.
