Hey all you folks that know alot more about fishing than me. I need some advice. I just picked up a travel contract for work in Petoskey, Michigan. Being from Texas and only done fly fishing for Bass and Perch, I am totally excited because I hear Michigan has good trout fishing. Being unexperienced and not from that area I am looking for help doing some trout fishing. I start Monday the 2nd there and would love to get fishing asap. Thanks for the help.
If you are coming up July 2, you will be just in time for the Michigan Fish-In. Stop in at Gate’s Lodge in Grayling and we can not only sit down with the Michigan Atlas, but will also take you out for some fishing. You will love the trout fishing in MI. If you are in Petoskey, you will likely frequent such jewels of the north as the Maple, the Sturgeon, the Black, the Boardman and many others. Pray that you get to be here in the fall for the salmon run and all those steelhead that follow them looking to fill their bellies with salmon eggs. You’ll love it!
dreaton;
You lucky dog. Just removed from Michigan myself. You are going to be in some of the best trout waters of America!! If you’ve got the 4th off come on over to Gate’s Au Sable Lodge for the FAOL cookout!! You are now a member of FAOL and will be accepted with open arms. An oppertunituy to meet JC and Ladyfisher along with a great bunch of tale tellers and liars!! (I’m a tale teller!).
There is some great Bass fishing up there too as well as Carp!!
The Jordan, Boardman, Betsie, Manistee are all less than an hour. Don’t overlook some world class smallmouth fishing in the bay and in local lakes. Traverse area is one of the most beautiful in the world as well. No down side to that!
Hey thanks for all the responses. I am onmly gonna be an hour away from the fishin, so I will plan on spending a few days down there. Wow how lucky can I be to get this paid for me,lol.
Hey there Brad,
If you are serious about “big table”, count us (2) in. Sounds like it would be a great idea to get together at Gates dining room Monday PM for those who are so inclined. A larger group may need reservations because it’s a small restaurant. AND remember, it’s BYOB.
Hey, count me in for (3) for Monday night! If you want me to check about getting a large reservation for Monday night, let me know, I will ask tomorrow when I get there.
Drew
Hmmmm… Jack, if we get there at 4 pm, we’d have about 4 hours to help eat up all of the perch. That would leave us a few critical seconds to flee back to Tennessee. :shock:
I think that leaving at least a very generous, JC-sized serving of perch sounds like a better idea. Besides, I don’t think that I can take him with an 8-wt at 10 paces.
