Fishing buddy graduated basic training

My grandson Eddie graduated Air Force basic training Friday. He was in the top 5 of his TRS/FLT. We all (10 of us) flew to San Antonio for the ceremony. It was awesome. He and all the other graduates are fine young men and women and made us all proud.

Congratulations to you, Eddie, and your entire family. Top 5 is reason for a swollen chest. Thank you Eddie for you service. You’ve chosen an honorable profession. When I was in the Army, we called Air Force soldiers Zoomies (affectionately). If I had it to do all over again, I’d be a Zoomie too.

Wow Jim!!! Doesn’t seem he’s been gone that long!!! Tell him congrats!!! and have a good time at Tech School or where ever he lands.

Got some photos downloaded. This is my Airman and me on the parade grounds after the ceremony.

He’s a fine looking young man. Tell him I’m proud to have him protecting my borders.

Thank you Joe.

Fatman, He is at Fort Sam Houston for tech school. That’s like 20 minutes from Lackland AFB. Just moved across town. His job of choice was not available so he is going to train as a dental assistant. Jim

There’s a lot worse training he could have been slotted for. One of my best friends has a son who is thinking of retiring from the USAF at the old age of 38. His dad has been encouraging him to get another stripe on his sleeve before retiring knowing it will pay him the rest of his life. Going over to Ft. Sam he will probably see how good he has it in the USAF. When I worked for Holiday Inn one of our hotels used to serve as temporary housing for young doctors and nursing going through branch school at Ft. Sam. Every now and then you would see them airing and drying their sleeping bags on the hotel balcony after being required to go bivoauc overnight as part of the training. Most of the USAF doesn’t know what a bivoauc is.

Eddie called last night. When he finishes tech school he is going to Aviano Air Base in Italy. How neat is that? Gotta start saving my aluminum and plastic recycling junk for the air fare next Christmas. WOOHOO. Jim
