Fish are chewing in the bay!

We’ve got a cold front heading this way. So, fish are hungry and eating.

Today, I took Bob Parker, president of the Mangove Coast Fly Fishers in Sarasota, Fla., out for a day for fly fishing. We did well. We caught spotted seatrout, ladyfish, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, jack crevalle and pompano. Largest fish was 6-pound blue. Spanish topped out a 4.

Very good and fast action!

Steve, as always you just know how to drive a guy crazy!!! I just love all the pictures…can’t wait for my next trip down.

Thank you! Give me a shout when you’re down this way.

Steve …
The fish in the second picture sure looks like a Permit, not a Pompano.
DickM.

It’s a pompano. I’ve caught both.

Pompano:

Permit

Steve,

I’ll do that for sure. I’m hoping to make it down for the fish-in…if there is one this year, and if not, then I’m going to try and come down anyway!!! We should at least share a beer if we don’t fish together considering we share the same last name!

Till then though, keep posting those awesome pictures!

TT

I’ll be glad to take you fishing. Just give me a shout!

Good size Pompano, too.

That’s a nice pomp under any circumstances. What a variety of fish; I’d love to catch some spanish. I think we’re going to bag Sebastian next year and fish the west side. TT - that’s a long way from Havre; go Blue Ponies.

Regards,
Scott

Where is this your fishin, ocean ? never fished in the ocean flyfishin, wouldnt know how to do it or what to use… looks like fun though…

No, it’s Sarasota Bay. Close to the Gulf of Mexico, but not in it!

That looks like a Clouser. Is it?? What size ???
Nice pics. Thanks…

That’s a Super Hair Clouser on a No. 1 hook.

It is a long way from Havre, but worth every mile!!!

If you haven’t tried fly fishing in salt water…well, it’s an experience you just have to try! There’s nothing like it!
