Finally!

After five or six fishing trips, I finally hooked up with a nice LMB this morning. It was a tad shy of two pounds and put up an excellent fight. I had been picking up the younger generation (half a pound to three quarters of a pound) here and there for about a week. Strangely enough, I haven’t been running into any brim or other sunfish at all. Normally, at this time of year, brim are jumping all over my poppers and soft hackles but not this year. The lake is still down 5 feet, recovered from 23 feet in the early winter, and cold. I need to find myself a nice two or three acre farm pond and give up this big lake fishing. Hartwell in SC has great rewards but it sure can be tough and stingy with them some years. 8T

8T…That’s great! What did you use to entice this bass, & WHERE are the pictures? :D…Glad to read of your success, even without pics.

Mike, I’m afraid that I remain photo challenged for two reasons. Reason one, I’m dumb. I can’t seem to Photobucket to work. John Scott kindly walked me through photos a couple of times last summer but I can’t seem to get it to work anymore. Reason two, I’m superstitious. Bringing a camera seems to be the kiss of death as far as catching ANY fish goes. It’s almost as bad as saying “don’t worry dear, I’ll bring home a fish dinner,” as you head out the door.

I caught my bass off a public boat ramp before any of the boaters had gotten there about 6:45 in the morning. I caught the fish on a size #2 Gurgle Pop in all black with a short ,stubby marbou tail and no rubber legs (both to discourage the small brim harassment I had expected.) I didn’t have much luck finding the bass’s brothers and sisters. 8T

The camera is the kiss of death when you go fishing BECAUSE THE FISHIES KNOW YOU AIN’T GONNA POST PICS OF THEM ON THE INTERNET when you get home.

Get set up with Photobucket and your fishing will be so good that you will bring a fish or two home for dinner every outing, all but guaranteed. ALL BUT … guaranteed.

If you want to give it another go, let me know if I can help.

John

I think that Photobucket has changed something because my old instructions don’t seem to work anymore. I’ll PM you if I decide to tangle with photos again. Thanks for the kind off-----again! 8T
