i was recently given a few bags of feather quills…i dont mean like a turkey quill, i mean like the hard tip at the bottom of a large quill…i have no use for these, and i was wondering if you guys knew wht they are 4.
I have seen them used to make pencil popper bodies. I think there was an article by Fishy Fullum on a Fly Tyer magazine that showed the technique, I’ll have to look. Since they are hollow, if you can lash them onto the hook and then seal the opening they should float.

ok. that helped a lil. but since the are rigid, they are very hard to get to stay on the hook. they roll all around… :shock: :?

Simply wrap the hook shank with thread, lash on the piece of quill, coat with CAA (Crazy-Glue) and paint.

GOOGLE “goose quill pencil poppers” or some variation of those words.
There certainly isnt many patterns that use goose primary quills. Better off making pens from them.

I recall seeing some hoppers tied with a large quill for the body. You have to seal the cut end to make the quill airtight.

I’ve tied some great looking ( and working ) hoppers with 'em . Tie a little turkey quill on top for a wing and knotted pheasant tail for legs .
yeah i saw something like that in a book except for legs it used two smaller quills, and it turned out way to bulky when i tried. it looked like a swimming tank!!! :shock:
