sometimes I use polyester sewing thread. I like it because I can see it well and that makes it easy to build an underbody or the head. I also like tying with 16/0
I pretty much use 8/0 Uni for all my tying unless its some extra heavy */0 hook clousers or deer hair spinning. Have not been tying anything small enough to need 17/0! Whew! I’d need more than just 17/0 thread if I were tying that small. Guess its the warm water that I tie for.

Hi All,
For #12s and smaller, 6/0 Danvilles or 8/0 Uni.
For #18s and smaller, 14/0 Griffiths, if I have it in the right color. Since I only have a few colors of the GG, but I hope to buy a few more colors. Still, the GG doesn’t come in tons of colors. If I don’t have the GG in the color wanted, then usually I used the Danvilles 6/0.
For #12 and larger flies I use 6/0 Uni.
For #12s, there is an overlap for me, and I use the Uni 6/0 and 8/0, and also the Danvilles 6/0.
For the tiny amount of spinning of deer hair poppers I tie, I use Danvilles flat waxed nylon, primairly, but have used other thread types as well.
Regards,
Gandolf
I tie mainly in sizes 10 through 24. For sizes 10 and 12 I use 6/0 Uni, sizes 14 through 18 I use 8/0 Uni and sizes smaller than 18 I use 17/0 Trico by Uni.
Pearsall’s Gossamer Silk for tying wets, Danville 6/0 for most dries, Bennichi 10/0 for small flies.
REE
I mostly use Danville 6/0 waxed monocord, Danville 3/0 waxed monocord, and Danville 410 Denier waxed.
Semper Fly!
If you get a chance have a look at this article to explain the different types of thread available:

As for me, I mainly tie small flies using Daniville Flymaster 6/0 waxed thread for now and looking into silk and Gudebrod threads.
Thanks,
Terry
Terry:
Unfortunately, Gudebrod is OUT of the fly tying business. The PRESENT Orvis fly tying thread is Gudebrod and you may be able to find some Gudebrod branded stock at certain fly shops.
It is GREAT stuff and all that I use with the exception of Pearsall’s. When you look at the various charts and IGNORE the inaccurate and misleading “aught” system and seek out denier comparisons; Gudebrod is consistently one of the strongest threads when compared to other brands of the same DENIER.
