FALLS GOLD
Pulling my truck into the parking lot along Tulpehocken Creek in Central Pennsylvania I found myself lacing up my boots alongside several early morning joggers. Gone was the half dozen or so fisherman you would expect to find through early fall. The leaves were all off the trees now, and the hatch activity could be expected to have gone along with them. We had been fortunate up until now to only have a few frosty mornings and maybe an inch of snow on a few blustery days so far.

Fun read, Ralph.

Reminds me of a day down on the South Fork of the Snake just about five years ago. Nymphing with a big stonefly. Real heavy fish on. Got to be a big brown trout. But he’s acting like whitefish. Got to be a big brown trout. But he’s acting like a whitefish. That back and forth goes on for a couple minutes until I finally get him to the surface about 20’ away.

BIG whitefish. 23" long, healthy, fat, and strong. As big and strong as the biggest browns I caught on the South Fork, and much more endurance than whitefish usually display.

Thanks for jogging my memory.
