EZ Red Larva Lace pattern

This is one of those 1-material fly patterns that is EASIER than a Woolly Bugger!
I’m sure this has a name, but I didn’t do my homework to find out what it is. I tied these up a #10 Scud Hooks using red Larva Lace.

They could probably do double-duty as either a Chironomid or a Bloodworm.

I put one in front of a carp on the river this year, he took it then broke 10lb tippet! It was the only one I had with me that day. I imagine trout and bluegills would want to slurp these as well. Anybody else tried these?

Very chewy looking fly. Not suprised that it does well. Nice!

I wonder if wrapping a layer of Mirage tinsel up the hook before the Larva Lace…would that make it “light up” better?

Possibly. But if it works, I wouldn’t necessarily mess with it.

Unless the water is crystal clear or you are fishing it right on the surface, I would doubt it would make a difference as you would be counting on reflected light to lighten it up but I would give it a try, otherwise you will never know.

I tied a couple this weekend…one a darker shade of red, and one olive-colored:

I’ve tied some with clear stretch tubing and lay down a base layer of whatever color or flash I want before wrapping the stretch tubing around. I’ve found that they work well with the sunny’s, and have caught some 4-5 inch trout with them in small water. Usually put a bead at the head or something on mine.

Tye one using white Larva Lace. Put a few wraps of peacock herl for the head. I don’t know many fish that can refuse a maggot. They’ve been working for me.

I like BOTH of those ideas…the clear, and the white!
