Epoxy wrap finish won’t set up and needs to be removed. I have carefully cut finsh and treads over guide feet and removed, but some finish still remains. Is there a chemical that will remove remaining epoxy, without damaging blank finish? John
John, most of the time all you need to do is to mix another batch of epoxy and take great care in ensuring that you have exactly equal amounts. Apply that over hte epoxy that won’t set up and it will cure. Sounds like you are beyond that though and need to start over…try some acetone but use it carefully and don’t rub the blank too hard with it.
John, Check out Cabelas. They have epoxy in packets. Fold in half, cut and squeeze it out. Works like a charm and you dont have too fuss with getting equal amounts. Post some pics when your done.

Hello. Use a hair dyer to soften the epoxy and then scrap it off with the edge of a plastic card don’t press too hard.Rubbing alcohol will also help to remove the old epoxy. I have redone allot of wraps over the years and have found the hair dyer to work the best. Not all the old finish has to be removed. Just enough so that the surface to be wrapped is pretty smooth and even.

Vinegar will work as a mild solvent for uncured epoxy.
Kengore, does vinegar soften cured epoxy too? Thats a pretty cool thing to know that a household item like vinegar works on epoxy, must be the acids in it!!
I don’t think the vinegar has any effect on the cured epoxy, just the soft goopy stuff. Heat is the only thing I know that will get to the cured epoxy.
Just remember to use that credit card, or a plastic knife, not a sharp one. You can’t keep from scratching the finish.
I’ll second the use of a credit card or plastic knife. In fact, if you rub the plastic knife or CC back and forth over the residual finish, it will creat enough heat to eventually remove the finish. The heat will also leave a little bit of the plastic from the knife or CC on the blank, but this wipes right off with a moist paper towel.
I just did this last week and it works great.
