End Caps

I wanted to get some inexpensive reel seats for some old fiberglass rods. I found some on Ebay for $1.00 to include shipping. The seats came without an end cap. I raided the wife’s collection of buttons. Problem solved. I really doubt this in an original idea - but just in case somebody else had not thought about it.

Panman,

I’m surprised you didn’t use an Oregon quarter, they are pretty nice. BTW, good job on the button! What kind of cement/glue do you recommend for attaching buttons, quarters etc? For some reason I have a fixation on these state quarters. Personally, I would use your states quarter before my own states - don’t like it. The 1776-1976 Bicentennial one would be cool too!

Best regards, Dave S.

Dave - I tried coins but none fit snug. The quarter & nickle were too big, the dime too small. I could have made a penney work but it was also a little small. I haven’t glued it onto the seat yet. Probably use epoxy.

I used a dime and nickel on a pair of ice rods I just built. I used 2-part epoxy and it works just fine.

Speaking of coins it occurred to me that drilling a hole in a penny gives you a washer that is cheaper than purchasing a real one…of course I would never do that since it is illegal.

There use to be a regular rod building contributor on this sight that displayed rods with buttons used as end caps. They inspired me to go to the local cloth store. There I found some very nice options; deer, bears, bear paws, various fish.
