We had a really, really wet spring here in the Black Hills, blowing out a lot of our streams. Every time I had a chance to fish, it would rain. But finally I managed to get out on a day where it didn’t rain. Rapid Creek was still flowing pretty high, semi fishable but I decided to try another stream. I headed up to Elk Creek and caught probably 35 fish in under 2 hours using a hopper/dropper rig.
Nice fish and nice scenery.
Interesting variety of speckled dace. They look very similar to the Brook Trout that are found back East. ![]()

What is a Brook Trout? I’ve never heard of it.
Another victim of Swamp Witch Betty.
