Egg Laying Caddis

Hi,

New here. Not sure how to attach a photo.

Can I suggest looking at my blog for a possible improvement to the standard elk hair caddis?

Thanks
Byron Haugh

Looks like that would also work for a yellow sally “hot but” egg layer.

Hi, Byron
I know that Craig Matthews uses zelon as an underwing for both his X-Caddis and his Improved X-Caddis (or Enhanced X-Caddis, or X2-Caddis, or whatever it’s called now), and A.K. Best uses shiny mink guard hairs for an underwing many times on his hair-winged caddis flies, so I think your fly will work great. As long as the deer hair wing is sparse and the underwing is shiny and even sparser, it will simulate the caddis wings better than deer hair alone.

Thanks Joe

Looks good! I like using cdc underwings (cdc and elk) or zelon/antron. They make great divers, too.
