Hello all,
I am about to take the plunge and buy my first pair of polarized sunglasses (prescription). What color lens should I get if I can only buy one? I fish lakes and rivers in eastern new york and the catskills. Mostly during the day.
Thanks,
Rawfish

Amber/bronze - Yup!
My 3 color choices are gray, brown or copper…
Which one is closest to what you consider amber/bronze??
You can see the glasses here:

Rawfish,
Those were our choices too. We chose brown…both times. ![]()

Amber/bronz for the bonefish flats. No idea for YOUR area. By two cheap ones, one each color. Try them first!
My first choice would be yellow, for the night driving, and driving on rainy grey days. Helps to get there and back, safely!
Yellow Polarized Glasses (Shooters Glasses), allow you to still see the road at night with oncoming traffic, you will not get blinded by the headlights. On rainy nights, you will still be able to see the edge of road markings and centerline (no matter how faint).
On gray overcast days, the yellow lens, will help sharpen the shape of those blue-grey cars, that seem to blend into the background.
Yellow also works on the stream, but I really like them for the safety on the road. Beside using yellow lens, makes any cloud day seem like a sunny day.
I’m under the impression that it may vary by individual. For me, I do better with dark gray glasses on really sunny days, but prefer amber on overcast days or when there’s not much sun.
No matter what the color, though, you’ll be pleased with how much better you can see things underwater with the polarized glasses.
Bronze, amber or brown for sunny river or freshwater fishing, gray for cloudy days and Vermillion for slat flats.
