Duct Tape Quote

O.K. I just couldn’t help myself when I read the duct tape quote from Oprah so here goes.

I think a much better quote on duct tape comes from Red Green. “Duct tape, the handyman’s secret weapon.”

Personally, I like the Oprah quote better but here’s another favorite:

Everything in the world can be fixed with either Duct Tape or WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn’t, use Duct Tape. If it doesn’t move and it should, use WD-40.

Baling wire is the farmers secret weapon. It does everything from holding up a gate to holding your muffler on your farm truck. I always have a coil of baling wire and a roll of duct tape in my tool box.

ah yes the good old 8 gauge wire, bane of balers, lawnmowers, driveshafts, motorbikes and horses.

If duct tape didn’t work… you did not use enough of it.

I have a small farm/vineyard here in SE Michigan. There are 3 things that keep this farm going. DucTape - Bailing Wire/Twine and JB Weld. The JB Weld is the most used, Bailing Wire 2nd. DucTape is used alot but won’t hold up to the elements. Jonezee

LOL…I love them all!

yes it is possible to reuse pvs plumbing pipe, fencing staples and numerous other so called one use items. Its amazing what you end up reusing in inventive ways. Although if the cows break through that boundary fence again , maybe its time to use new staples.

While I was at Gander Mountain today I noticed that the folks that make guerilla glue now make guerilla duct tape. Just imagine the holding power of that stuff!

American veteran and proud of it!

you can make a useable canoe with three rolls of duct tape.

additional thot - get red then it will look like Diane’s canoe plenty of room for pecans (bass food)

Live each day as if it were your last, some day you’ll be right!

If you have never seen the Red Green show you are missing some high jocularity. The Handyman’s Corner is the best segment on the show.

And in the immortal words of Red Green, “If the women can’t find you handsome, they can at least find you handy!”

I have tried Gorilla glue on some wood and plastic. It works but it sure does foam up and squeeze out of bonds. This may be urban legiond but I heard the FDA may someday prohibit exopy because of some claimed harmful side affects. Gorilla glue is suppose to be an atempt to replace expoy? Gorilla glue is more expensive than JB Weld, I think they both have their place but I can’t see myself mending a broken tractor aluminum altanator bracket with Gorilla glue.

I used gorilla glue when I made a pirque out of 1/4 in ply and 1x2s no screws just glued it MAN that stuff holds.Lots of clamps as I glued. When it finally went to the great shipyard in the sky the boards broke but the joints held 4 yrs later.
Never tried it on anything else as the mosture in the wood helps the bond and causes the foaming.
Never have tried the canoe outta duct tape but might try it this spring. It would seem to be light weight though.

At first glance I wasn’t too impressed with Gorilla Tape, didn’t look much better than good quality duct tape. But let me tell you the stuff is tough.

Jonzee - here’s a nod for JB Weld. Two days after I bought this house I saw water on the basement floor. Upon examination I found a pin-hole in pressure tank on my water system.

I hated to just buy another tank not knowing for sure what I wanted to do with the system so I drained it, filed down a spot an inch square to bare metal, dried things out with a torch and applied some JB. Held fine until I made up my mind.

Oh wait - I guess I haven’t really made up my mind yet…that was 19 years ago.

Another good product that is less well known is 3M strucutral adhesive. I learned about it when engine blocks on GM cars were pourus and leaking oil through the cast iron of the block. I mixed up the 2 part adhesive and put it on the block. VOILA no more leaking. I’ve used it in a thousand different ways, including fixing a whole in a large mixing bowl. I plugged it about 10 years ago with this stuff and it still holds under very regular use.

I have a above ground well pump here on the farm, six years ago water started spouting tiny streams from the rusted out housing. To replace it would have meant digging out the pipe (5 feet down) and being out of commission for longer than I wanted to be (the new part would have come from Iowa) I used two packets of 24 hr JB Weld, sanded it, painted it and it is still as sound today as if it were a new part. I will look for the 3M product, it sounds like it comes in larger than 4inch tube size (JB Weld).

We got mail trucks in Iowa. Quit using Pony Express a couple years ago. Don’t tell anyone - the ponys were faster.

Yet another goodie from Red Green:

“Spare the duct tape, spoil the project.”
