double taper

Okay, I know Im opening myself up, so please be gentle  Ive FFshd for close to 40 years and all Ive used is WF line. Now that Im into tea sticks, to me they dont feel right. Will a Dbl taper improve the casting on Boo? Go head JC, free shot  Thanks

Don’t know, but I am going to find out tomorrow afternoon. That’s right Clyde! Your rod gets baptized tomorrow man, and I am going to string it up with an old silk DT line that I refinished earlier this winter. And she ain’t goin’ back in the bag till she hauls one in!!! 8)

Jim, and I get to cast that rod this summer, right? Looking forward to the Michigan ‘Fish-In.’

Well Clyde, afraid I have no pictures to show from my outing. Had one fish on the rod for a half a second while fishing soft hackles, but afraid I couldn’t seal the deal. The fishing is usually excellent the weekend before the opener, usually because that is the week that they stock the streams. But yesterday was an exception. 70 degrees and sunny, 55 degree water, but very few bugs coming off, and hardly any fish rising or doing anything. Even the spin fishermen were taking a beating. Go figure. :?

Was also my first outing with a DT line, and a refinished silk one ta boot. Will take a little getting used to and a little time to get the line all fully gooped with Mucilin and really supple and rubbed down, but it floated pretty well. I get the feeling that I am really used to WF lines, and that DT lines take a little different timing or range, or something. I will keep at it. I owe you a picture with a fish next to the rod!

Absolutely JC! Maybe you can help me figure out the timing on that line as well. I am coming up with the entire arsenal (if you can call my rod collection that). Everything from an old 4.5 ft 5 wt Learners Fly Atom fiberglass rod I found this winter, to a 14 ft 9/10 wt spey, both just for casting and goofin, thought I might try the Fly Atom on the North Branch just for kicks. Will bring up the rod Clyde made and probably some other boos to. Can hardly wait! Next year I hope to bring up a PHY Driggs River that I have just started building from scratch! My first attempt at building a cane rod! Just split the cane this past week! 8)

Great Jim, wonderful times are instore for you.

Jim, Sorry bout your luck :frowning: Hopefully the Old Monty didnt fold up on ya. The banty I got from BJanzen will be put through her paces this weekend. I bought a DT line, and yes they have a differnt feel. Probably the long belly, but I like it. JC, when you see the rod I did, go easy. Im not DLeo

All cane rods are beautiful; some more so than others.a
