I was watching this show and it was called dollar wise fly. This guy went around louisiana rented a kayak and went red fishing on the fly. He was hooking some sweet fish and was really pretty intresting. Anybody see that? First time ive ever seen it.
Dog-gone it! Someone recommended that show & I meant to watch it or at least record it. Of course, I forgot! Thanks Steelie for reminding me for next time.

Hey guys,
I gave the headsup several weeks ago…go to Versus.com and click on Hunting/fishing then scroll down to Dollar Wise Fly and print out the schedule for the whole series.
That’s the series by Conway Bowman I spoke of. You could probably go to his website and get the schedule also.

steelieslayer,
I watched it last night…it was a good show. The host landed a 38# redfish into his yak. It was pulling him along as if he was using a trolling motor…Best Regards…
I was actually a bit disappointed in the show. The fishing stuff was great, but the descriptions I read beforehand said there would be ‘detailed’ info on how to fish inexpensively. So the kayak was a nice insight, but the cost was still $1500 for one person for three days - that’s not inexpensive in my book.
I agree, but for some it’s not an issue. Does that price include taking the yak home with you or having it shipped? If so, then it becomes more reasonable.
Some places structure the rates so the upper crust don’t have to mingle with the commoners. I read somewhere that a guide would hook the fish and hand the client the rod so he could get his picture taken fighting the fish. Sounds pretty weird to me.
I believe he just rented the kayak. This is the description of the show from Versus.com and why I felt the show didn’t live up to it’s billing at $500/day.
?Dollar Wise Fly? is a comprehensive field sports program, taking viewers to some of the most sought after fly-fishing destinations for a fraction of the cost. An entertaining, yet practical approach for viewers to see first hand that fly-fishing is not only suited for the Rich and Famous. An adventure based show using a wealth of research on how to fish those fantasy waters without spending the fantasy money. Each week viewers will be left with usable information on locations, equipment, and techniques that the everyday outdoors man and woman can utilize on trips they have always dreamed of taking.
I’ve heard of guides doing that, too. Can’t imagine what the appeal of that is.
Redfish? On the fly? From a kayak? IMPOSSIBLE!

LMAO. Funny
sweet, ive got a few places where a kayak would come in handy for large mouth bass and off shore lingcod and sea bass fishing. seems like they are very practicle.
I love the portability of my yak, but I don’t like sitting down all the time, it’s hard on my back. I want to mount some out riggers on mine, then it will be the ultimate fly fishing craft. You can really be steathly.
I seen the show and liked it alot…it is extremely simular to what I do here in Miami…he looks like a prime canadate for my style of fishing…
