Doc's Cork SBS

As in, it’ll float like one. A variation on the Doculator, this one’s tied for the Mother’s Day Caddis; change colors/size to suit your needs (anything smaller than a #14 and you may want to use .5mm foam)

hook - Dai Riki 280 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 dark olive
body/underwing/head - 1mm foam olive
wing - deer hair
hackle - barred dun

Part 1

mash barb, start thread, wrap to bend and back

taper foam strip (not quite gap width); tie in

brush shank with a little Super Glue, wrap to bend, then back to tie in; tie off/trim (if you manage the tension properly, you can get a reverse taper)

taper end of another foam strip (gap width), measure for length (a bit past the bend); tie in, wrap to eye

fold foam over to create a little head; tie off/trim

Part 2

clean, stack, measure (tips even with underwing) a clump of deer hair; tie in/trim

tie in hackle; wrap to eye, tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

you can leave as-is or trim out hackle underneath (preferred)

Scott

Nice, I just realized I don’t have any foam that color. I think I need some gray also.

Interesting you say that ,Jesse. I too have mucho foam mostly from the craft stores and no olives. The small amount of olives I have are fro fly shops.
