I made myself a fly box to take along to the beach this weekend for $4.22

Just a note on availability of these boxes…I found them at JoAnns in Palm Desert this winter…went back later and they were out and the didn’t seem to get restocked. Have tried 2 JoAnns stores here in Salem ,OR and no luck…so if you see them …grab.
How’s the hinges and clasp on that box ?
I’ve made similar in the past and the all plastic ones didn’t hold up.
Excellent fly boxes, I love your creativity on this. I like making my own boxes, they are SO MUCH CHEAPER.
If I had one gripe, the closure mechanism would be it. It would be secure enough, but the memory of the plastic makes it so that the clasp doesn’t really “want to” stay on. Luckily, the foam holds the flies so well that even if it comes wide open, you can shake the box vigorously, upside-down, without losing a thing. If they made this box with a more positive closure, it’d be a perfect ten. As it is, I give it a 7.6
Might stop and get stuff to make a second box today. One for streamers, one for crustaceans.
I found mine at Michaels. Not sure if its a national chain or not. Just figured I’d throw that out there.
