Did i get a nice gift?

I ws jsut about to build a new rod foran upcoming carp trip. I was literally going to buy the blank this Friday. I mentioned the trip to one of my regular customers and said I was looking at a new rod. He says “hold off”. he came in yesterday and handed me 2 rods. Says "try ‘em and if you like them they’re yours.
so I now have a
Fenwick eagle GLC 9’ 8 wt
and
Diamondglass Backwater 908(feels like a rocket launcher)
Is it worth the price of a free lunch?

If you like them, I would say most definetly yes!

I’d say definitely worth a free lunch.

If you don’t like the Eagle, I can use it in Honduras for an up coming trip.

If the eight weight Eagle is like the five weight I have it is a bit heavy but is a great casting rod. Give the man a burger and some fries.

all gifts are great!

The thought alone is worth a nice lunch & more.
You are a lucky man.
Mike

I’d throw in a bottle of quality single malt scotch with that lunch. Who ever your buddy is… keep him close.

You must be one great chef!

I gotta agree with texfly, you must be Good!!!. Yes treat that customer to a good free lunch and see if he fly fishes. Y’all take care, John.

I have an Orvis outfit this guy from Ohio set me up with. Nice rod but the friendship gained is absolutely priceless! So long as you have those special rods every time you pick one of them up you will be reminded, vividly reminded, of the wonderful friend that gave them to you. You can’t buy that with all of the wealth in the universe!

Eric,
Seems as though there’s a canoe parked at my son’s that made a journey from PA! There are also flies, leaders, tools, & a bamboo fly rod that remind me every time I look at them and/or use them of the wonderful friends with whom they are forever linked.
You are right, the friendship is priceless. While all the material things CAN be replaced, friends cannot…THEY are the real treasures.
Mike

I’d cook that generous person something that wasn’t on the menu that they’ve wanted to try all their life. And after that i’d make sure there was something extra on that person’s table besides what they ordered every time they came in.

Cheers,
