Did anyone actually catch fish in MI???

I don’t mean to step on anybodies fly line of course, but I have yet to see a picture of a fish that was caught at the MI fish-in. I am of course in NO WAY insinuating that no fish were caught, and that any lies were told…I’d just like to see a few of the beauties that were brought to hand…I miss them…and was sort of hoping that some of the little ones I caught had grown a bit.

Thunderthumbs.

We caught a few…here is one of the smaller ones…

Yeah, I feel your pain. Looks like they still have some growing to do…rotf!!!

I caught a few fish, but nothing worth taking a picture of. Also, fishing was the secondary reason why I attended the Fish-In. The time spent with fellow FAOL’ers was the main reason I was there. Those memories will far outlast any fish that I might have caught. Additionally, sharing meals was another activity that brings me great joy, and we did that many times throughout the week.

Personally, If I didn’t catch a fish all week, it would not diminish the memories of the MIFI '08 and rthe friendships I established and renewed.

Even I caught fish and that was way cool as this was only the second time I fished for trout. The good times I had with my many new best friends outweigh all the fish in the world.

I’m not trying to belittle the improtance of spending quality time with old and new friends. I agree 100%, it’s more about the entire experience, not just catching fish. All I’m looking for is some eye candy.

I have had the privilege of laying my hands on several of the beautiful trout that inhabit that river, and was just wanting to see a few pictures if there were any.

I was scanning through some of my own from my days up there and realized that I didn’t have as many pictures of fish as I thought I did, so I threw up this post to see if someone had taken a few pictures.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had great fun seeing all the other pictures, and will continue to enjoy them till next year when new ones are posted, and hopefull, if everything works out, take some of my own to post.

TT.

I caught my fair share. Missed a lot of photo ops, too. I’m working on getting photos uploaded soon.

Last year:

They don’t all have to be huge to be memorable, that’s for sure! :stuck_out_tongue:

 Were we supposed to actually fish at the Fish-In:P

Jackster,

Now that’s what I’m talking about. Man, those are some of the prettiest fish I’ve ever caught. I just love it.

I love the colors. I could easily spend hours gazing at one of those fish just to make sure I saw everything on it.

Thanks for the great pic.

Sorry to say, I don’t have a lot of photos of fish. Not really because I didn’t catch any…but more because it was difficult to take photos in low light conditions while fishing alone. It’s hard enough in good light. I also had a mishap. I was setting up to take a nice photo of an 18" brown on a day I was nailing fish…when I finally had the fish quiet and the shot almost focused, I heard a KERPLUNK!! …then the camera turned off!! What the ??? was THAT? My lithium camera battery fell out of the camera and into the rushing water…never to be seen again. To top that off with the next big fish I landed that day, a rainbow this time…I reached behind me to retrieve my net. I had a brand new Filson vest with a new magnetic net clip. I was lookin’ & feelin real COOL!!! Well…I will tell you all now, DON’T rely on the magnet to keep hold of you net. My best net was gone, probably miles down river. Lesson? Buy a net tether to go with that magnet. D’uh!! Talk about getting brought down a few pegs. That day was the best day I ever had on the AuSable (other than the expense of loosing all that gear). 32 trout…with a couple of very nice ones to boot…and no photos to prove it.

Oh well… There’s always next time.

For your pleasure… an AuSable Trout Slam!!

I’ve been thinking the same thing TT. After all isn’t it the fish that brought eveyone together in the first place???

It is good to see a few fishy pictures along with all your ugl…uh, I mean beautiful smiling faces!!

MK,

Many thanks to you for your pictures. I never get tired of seeing those pretty little fish. It’s the days like you mentioned that will be remembered and relived for years to come, so thanks for sharing it with us.

One hates to point such things out but that picture clearly was not of a trout from the Au Sabel .

Given the few clues afforded by the picture, I believe that the fish in the picture was one of the smaller bluegills caught on a 3 wt rod at the the Central Washington fish in. The gentlemen in the picture are standing in the water due to the no use of nets rule. Had it been one of the larger gills we caught there would have been more of us in the water to help out. Obviously it was caught in Stan Coffin Lake and not Rocky Ford creek because Rocky has a strict no wading rule.
There you see if you use the clues provided its quite simple to arrive at the right answer.
