Devaux Mayfly SBS

Kind of like a reverse Jingler. Based on Davie McPhail’s video with a few changes in material and sequence (tying the tail first was much easier for me than trying to maneuver around all that hackle later). Notionally tied here as a flav; change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #12
thread - Danville 6/0 olive
tail - grizzly dyed olive
abdomen - turkey quill dyed olive
rear hackle - partridge dyed olive (1tbs Rit golden yellow, 1tsp Rit dark green, 1 cup water)
middle hackle - grizzly dyed olive
front hackle - dun

Part 1

mash barb, start thread

measure (shank length) some hackle fibers; tie in, finish with a small thread bump at the eye

tie in dun hackle, dull side forward; wrap back to 3/4 mark, stroking the fibers forward

repeat with olive grizzly, finishing near 1/2 mark

Part 2

prep partridge, tie in by tip, a few more rearward wraps; tie off/trim

prep a few fibers from a turkey primary (stuff on the other side of the biots); tie in

wrap, tie off/trim, whip, SHHAN
