Scott,

Very nice fly, like always.

How do you get your hackle to come out so nice.

I can rarely get mine to come out even and uniform, either winding a hackle feather or using a hackle tool ( the clip type).

Any tips for those of us soft hackle challenged people.

Thanks,

I tie softhackles like Ryan Houston does, with the tip facing rearward, tied in, folded back and wrapped. If you go to the 2:25 mark in this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DD-d77y0VDo&list=PLe2_NTRYbM77HOktA4g81HE_yiH3ydizq&index=4&t=8s, you’ll see what I mean; works for me. Folding the hackle by running the blade of my scissors along the stem helps, too.

Scott

Thanks for the response Scott, just this year I have found out how effective soft hackles can be!

( Thanks John)

Watched that video, WOW he is efficient. Not a wasted move.

I need to upgrade my hackle necks.

scott, nice tie,

I tie something similar to it, its a variation of an “anna k”, a local pattern, instead of the opal tinsel abdomen , I use green colored sparkle thread, and sometimes add in a red tag. it has proven to be very effective In the presence of green caddis

(scg, your welcome)
