I made this contraption yesterday in order to make my first custom grip. It will go on a 7’ 8/9 weight bass popper experimental rod (on a casting blank). The contraption worked great!
This is the grip. I don’t want to hear it about the poor quality cork. It won’t bother me on this rod.
Let us know how the short 8/9wt works out.
I’ve been thinking that’s exactly what I need for saltwater kayak fishing.
I’ve got my eye on a 7’ fiberglass spinning blank made for 6-12# line.

I’m not sure if that blank is heavy enough though
I like your little contraption. As far as the cork goes what you use is up to you and if you are happy then that is the best cork in the world. I like the grip. Job well done.
Mike,
It is called a “Precision drill guide”. It is like a sort of drill press you can mount a high speed drill into. It has a chuck on it and will allow me to modify the contraption as necessary.
