Congratulations to NJTroutbum

I was reading the Spring issue of Fly Tyer Magazine and came across a familiar name, Ralph Long, better know to the FAOL Community as NJTroutbum.

His article is in the Beginner’s Corner, entitled, A Simple Spin on Streamers. Don’t let the name fool you, Ralph is definitely not a beginner. I have long admired his tying skills. As a Streamer Guy, I particularly liked his step by step tying photos and the simplicity of creating three “go to” flies.

Please read his piece and let him know that you enjoyed it. This was Ralph’s second appearance in the magazine, but I doubt that it will be his last.

Way To Go NJ…Congratulations Sir

Do we have a link? I tried looking around on the website but didn’t come up with anything.

Good evening Wingsdlc,

If you get the Fly Tyer Magazine, it is in this month’s Spring Edition

DaveMac,

Thanks for passing this on. I’m a streamer fanatic also! I’ll have to hunt down the Spring Addition. Congrats - NJTroutbum! aka (Ralph Long!) Very nicely done!

Best Regards, Dave S.

Just read NJtroutbum’s article, great read. I love streamers and have honestly never thought of his approach to them. may have to rethink all my streamer boxes.

I read the feature and enjoyed it but never made the connection, maybe because the editor’s comments at the end of the article said: “Ralph lives in Pennsylvania”.

Maybe he should change his name to PATroutbum.

Thanks folks! I hope the patterns can add to your flybox.

Bamboozle…you are correct, that is a misprint. I was born and raised in PA, but I’m in South Jersey these days.

A quick trip over the Barry, Walt, Ben or Betsy makes it all valid!

Good work!

Yessir…one of them is a daily routine both ways for me

Ralph, congratulations on a great article. I know what work and dedication it takes to get published. Well done.

Kelly.

I enjoyed the article, and the patterns looked great!
What sizes do you normally fish? (maybe the article says…I don’t have it in front of me)

Dave,

I prefer a 5x limerick bend in #10-#6.

I hope at least some of you put together the name and made the connection to R.E. Long (NJTroutbum) who also authored his first book which was reviewed here on FAOL recently as well: Beginnings “A Season of Archery”

Cool! Congrats Ralph!

Good afternoon LadyFisher,

Ralph has a second book out, named "Tomorrow’s Fish" If he keeps this up, I see a future Sponsor in the works.

Hey Ralph,
Great article in Fly Tyer… and photos… Those look like “goto” flies for me when nothing else is working…
