Original tied with a body of ultra chenille; nice, but this one floats better. Change color/size to suit your needs; for evening emergences, a strip of foam (orange works for me) on top of the wing will improve visibility. This would also work as a Spruce Moth.
Scott,
Thanks for posting another very nicely tied fly. You have inspired me to tie a lot of these and I have become a fan of the carnage variations that you have shown.
One question: Where do you get your 1mm foam? I only have 2mm, so I have not had success tying smaller patterns like this, since the 2mm foam does not lay as well as I would expect the 1mm to do.
Thanks,
Ted
Thanks for the kind words. I’ve purchased a lot of my 1mm foam from the Hopper Fishing site; good color selection/decent prices. I also got an assortment pack of 8 1/2x11 sheets on EBay. Some craft stores also carry packs of 4x6 sheets of foam that’s a little thicker, maybe more like 1.5mm in real bright colors; I’ve found that to be very useful for attractor versions.
The Razor Foam I’ve seen sold in flyshops is way overpriced and color selection is limited; you can do better looking elsewhere.
