Cheap material alert - craft fur rugs

I saw big bath mat-size craft fur “rugs” on sale at Walmart today. $19.99. They had black, white, and gray. The white and gray (which looked like several shades mixed) would combine for a nice little minnow pattern. The mats were big enough that you’d get a lifetime worth of craft fur out of them even if you tied 50dz flies a year off them.

A slightly different material, for which I have not found a source (yet), my wife has a throw she covers with in the recliner when the cat jumps up in her lap. The fringe appears to be a “micro” chenille. Walmart only carries a large chenille in its yarns but I think the manufacture makes much smaller. If it’s available in less than a 10 lifetime supply quantity I will advise later.

Please show us the rug and a fly. That would be great. Thanks

Good find, although at my age “lifetime supply” is becoming surprisingly smaller than I would like to admit.

Scott

I didn’t actually buy them. Not much cash. I did get some looks while pinching the fibers together and holding the rug up to my face to check fiber length…

Now that I’m over 70, I decided to start a new career as a construction worker. Talking with a dirt contractor moving the dirt around the jobsite, only to learn he is the same age as my son. But, I’m only middle age, as I plan to be a 150 years old.

I fish a lot of large streamers for LM bass and found a cheap source for different colored fibers in long strands. I haunt the local Goodwill stores and find a lot of brand new woman’s wigs/hairpieces all made from synthetic fiber, usually for about $1 or $2. They make excellent streamers and the tightly woven braids for African American hairstyles make effective tails for bass jigs and “hair” worms. I do get some funny looks when I buy long hair pieces, but I just chuckle and pay.

Off subject…apologies…

Walter, update on your new location and work?

Any more videos of tying in the works?
