Despite how much I think of Fishpond, I can’t and won’t spend the money on a Cloudburst.
Does anybody know of a cheap gear bag? I’m not looking for anything spectacular, far from it. My only want in a gear bag is multiple pockets/closures to keep items seperated/organized to some degree and a really low price of course. Thanks in advance.
You might want to take a look those day packs sold in the “marts” and sporting good stores. Kind of like those packs the kids are toting to school these days. I bought one for 10 bucks that has so enough pockets for all my gear and a change of clothes. I would advise you to examine the zippers closely to insure they are workable, etc.

Yup. Make sure the zippers…WORK!
Madison River Fishing Company has an Outcast gear bag on sale pretty cheap ($19.95).
Sierra Trading Post also has gear bags cheap at times.
One trick is to avoid looking for fly fishing gear bags. Just adding the “fly fishing” label doubles the price. Look for camping or conventional fishing gear bags. For example, Cabelas has an all purpose gear bag cheap.
They also have a Pine Ridge duffle that would make a good gear bag.
Try the White River brand at Bass Pro Shops online catalog. I got a great one at Christmas that came from there and was very reasonable.
I also have a White River from BPS. Like it just fine and works for me. Was about $25 I believe and bought 5-6 years ago. Has two end pouches, two in the front, and one in the part that buckles down, and of course the main section.
Thanks for all the info guys! I’m looking hard at several of the options you all mentioned. According to some folks on another site, I just missed a 1/2 off sale on a really nice cabelas bag ($20!!)
As a late entry(lol) I would look at the duffles by Eddie Bauer. They have three different sizes. I have the medium and small bags. The medium I use for vest, hat, boxes, reels, etc. The smaller I use for fly tying materials and tools.
I solved this dilemma. The Cabela’s bags were no longer on sale when I looked but I found something even better and far more durable. Husky tool bag from Home Depot ($34.98) = aweome. I bought a couple of new $1 adjustable locking bungee cords to hold my rod tubes under the handles, which turned out to be extra long and allowed for one very wide Winston rube and 2 regular ones with no problem, and bingo. It has ton of pockets on the outside big enough to hold important items, 6 of them velcroed. I now have everything (except waders and boots which I have a hodgman wader/mat bag for), even my loaded vest packed away…boxes, reels, rods, tools, lines, etc. etc.
It may not work perfect for you but I got some great advice from the preacher man and tool bags are definitely a solid cost effective alternative to high priced gear bags. Thanks for all the advice.
PS Z, I looked at those Eddie Bauers at Target. Is that what you’re talking about? Those things can’t be real Eddie Bauer stuff because they are lousy quality from what I could see.
I should’ve mentioned before that I wasn’t looking for wader/boot storage, I already have that. I used to have a fishond outbound that was just too big so I went with the much smaller hodgman wader bag just for that and I was looking for a second gear bag.
