Trying all sort of PMD patterns for next June on Henry’s Fork.
I like the looks of CDC as a “wing” material. The hackle is “V” notched.
will the CDC continue to stand straight once wet?
Yes, With a couple quick false casts. Also, there is a new floatant which works well with CDC.
PS Do you like the book on the Dette’s?
Generally, high quality CDC will stand up to a LOT of use and abuse.
And low quality CDC is virtually useless as soon as the fly comes off the vice.
If you know someone who hunts water fowl and doesn’t fish, treat him right and clean the birds for him.
If your only source is a fly shop, you might want to tie with something else. The worst CDC I’ve used was premium stuff from Trouthunter. Maybe it was just that one bag that was that bad, but I doubt it.

I just found out about a place near me that raises Quail to sell to restraunts and consumers and thinking of calling to see if they skin the birds or pluck them. I’m hoping I can use then for feathers
I use CDC alot and I have never gotten a bad batch of CDC from TH. I have found that most CDC you buy off the shelf is of poor quality. I bought some Venards, it was ok but small. Natures Spirit has some nice stuff. Pettijeans is big, number one in size to be used in his tools,
I like TH CDC. I think it is the same stuff Rene Harrop uses. A few years ago I would not have said that.
It looks sought of like a White Wulf, I like it
