Caught my first nice smallie of the season

Went out this morning to a small stream near my home. After a few cast fromm the side, I decided to venture out into the stream. I seen a bass jump maybe ten feet from me. So I cast four or five feet ahead from him… A few seconds latter, bamm. I fought her for four or five minutes on a 4wt rod, using a bugger I tyed last night. Ended waighing in at 4 pounds, and 3 ounces. Nothing else this morning compaired. I did catch five other smallies, and three crappy.
Great way to start the day!!

ya gotta love it, dontcha? That’s my kind of morning, thanks for sharing it.

Sounds like the start of a perfect day.

4lb on a 4-wt. That must have been a nice battle.

It was an amazing fight. It must have been 5 to 10 mins… before I could tier her out… I’d get her in a bit… then off she’d go on a run. Back and forth we went untill finnally she wasnt running as much. So I started bringing her in. Then just three or four feet from me. She jumped staright up, and danced across the water for a second. And off she wewnt again for one last run. After that I had her.
I looked at her; smilled and let her go; hoping to run across her again one day.

Smallies are great aren’t they!!
Have to tie yourself up some top water stuff now.
Their a blast when they blow up on a popper or hair bug!!!

Wet

I havn’t caught many on poppers, and spong flys. But have caught many on dry flys. What a blast!

Fished Memorial Day from 5:00am to 9:30am all on topwater and managed 40 or more smallies with one spotted bass and one largemouth. Several large bream (pumpkin seed, green ear, and warmouth) that were larger enough to take the “weedout” popper. Designed to weed out the smaller fish.

Smallies ranged from 6 inches to a little over 3 lbs. What a great day!

Up stream view.

Have a great weekend!

longer fish but skinny. Think she may have just come off the bed.
Again sorry about the quality of the photo.

Did you catch those around Decatur?

Well… I see you are from Athens and without giving away to much info I have pretty much been fishing in your back yard.
