Selene Dumaine ties Carrie Stevens flies as Carrie did…by hand! She visited our FFF Club and did a tying demo for us, and we were mesmerized by here talent and her patience. Check out her website at http://users.adelphia.net/~sdumaine/

If you need a book, I’d highly recommend “Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing” by Joesph D. Bates. It is a classic and has most, if not all of Ms. Stevens patterns.
Semper Fi!
I know you will all think I am being pedantic, but I am Scottish.
Joe,
Aren’t all flies dressed by hand? What Carrie Stevens did was dress her flies without a vise, which is what a lot of fly-dressers did in those days.
I feel much better now, nothing like a bit of pedantry to start the day, and I said PEDANTRY.
Thanks everybody, there`s a lot of info out there when you know wherer to look. Have ordered a book on the subject , Thanks again Bob

Thank you, Donald, for setting me on the straight and narrow. Had I known you would be lurking in the background, I would have spent more time choosing my words so nobody would be confused. I consider myself duly chastised by one obviosly better educated than myself . In my 56+ years, I can honestly say I have never seen that word (in any of its forms) used in print or conversation on this side of the pond. I submit to your superior education.

P.S. I still think you are a gifted fly dresser, even if you are a slave to rules & details.
Joe,
I’m glad you like the flies.
Actually, I left school at fifteen, I am seventy-two now, but I was a voracious reader, as were my parents, but I was still the product of a Scottish State Educational system which then was regarded as one of the best in the world, but that was a long time ago and things change, not always for the better.
See that Joe, you’ve given me an even better start to the day for an old codger, a good grump.
Ah well, back to the fly tying and fly fishing, tight lines everyone.
Glad I could help. I have several friends in your age group, and it seems they also fancy a “good grump” on a regular basis.I usually suggest to them they include more water and fiber in their diet. Have you tried this regimen? It might help you as well.

To Donald and Joe, The pair of you make my morning, puts me in a good mood for the day. Im afraid I

Actually our friend from Scotland, the erstwhile electrical engineer, is concerned lest someone confuse him for a Podiatrist. If people thought that he started his day with a bit of podiatry, he would have been left open to all sorts of puns about starting off on the right foot.
Donald, I don’t think that a week goes by that I don’t refer at least one person to your website, usually by inviting them to link to it via this site.
Again I thank you for a superb contribution to the art.
Ed
p.s. Did you hear the one about the podiatrist and the size 12, 3906b?
How bout this one…
