Carey Bugger SBS

Sparkle-bodied takeoff on Jack Gartside’s Sparrow/Carey Special. Change colors to suit your needs; in olive it makes a good dragon/damsel.

hook - Mustad 9672 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 olive
tail - marabou olive
flash - Krystal Flash pearl
body - Crystal Chenille olive
hackle - pheasant rump dyed olive
head - aftershaft dyed olive

Part 1

mash barb, start thread

measure marabou (used the stuff from the butt end of the rump patch on an olive-dyed pheasant skin) for length (shank); tie in/trim butts

tie in KF; wrap back to point above barb/trim to length

tie in Crystal Chenille; wrap body, tie off/trim

prep pheasant rump feather

Part 2

tie in by tip; sweep fibers back while wrapping, tie off/trim

split thread, insert aftershaft, spin, moisten/stroke fibers back, wrap

half hitch x 2, SHHAN

also tied with peacock herl head
