Captiva

I’m heading to Captiva the second week of March and have never brought my flyrod before. Any suggestions - inside/flats, gulf side beaches, cuts on either end and what kinda flys?

Thanks

FliBri,

Fished some beaches around Naples last week and didn’t see any fishermen or snook. Water’s probably too cold. Rent a boat - or a boat with and attached guide - and go back into the mangroves.

The best backcountry fishing that time of year, factoring in the cold fronts will probably be at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refugee on Sanibel. You can rent a kayak to tour the sound. Might be to far to paddle over to Pine Islands’ flats & creeks & the drive would be over an hour but usually worth it. An #8 weight will get those size #6 -#1/0 flies to the fish even with the winds. Check the previous Florida Fish-Ins info for the little details.
