Calm Before the Storm

Went out on 1 May to try to beat the storm. The calm before the storm treated me well. I was able to land 2 commons & 1 grassy. The takes were very aggressive. I’d cast out, do a drag & drop and the 3 reacted differently, but aggressively. All 3 were taken on a fl fuchsia San Juan worm weighted with .030 wire.

I apologize for the noise in advance. There were periods of calm, then the wind would gust and keep going. Sorry for the length. My desktop is running slow, and the editor gopro came out with was choppy, so the videos are unedited. Just advance forward if you start getting bored. Anyone have any recommendations for good video editors that will handle the gopro format? Tight lines!

I cast past this first one, dragged & dropped it to the right side of the head. It turned on seeing the fly. That’s when my line slipped out of my hand due to the wind. The common started tailing and opening/closing mouth several times, and when I got the line back in my hand, I set the hook. My fishing partner came in time to help net.

This second common was doing a slow cruise along the bank. I cast the fly ahead & past, then did a drag & drop. The fly landed ahead & to the right. As soon as the common saw the fly it turned & surged forward. I saw the mouth open, then set the hook.

The last was a grassy. I cast ahead & did a drag & drop. It surged forward, but missed the fly. I picked up & re-cast it. Why? I don’t know. The fly landed to the right-rear of the grassy. It turned sharply surged forward & started to vacuum the bottom. I started tightening the line until I felt resistance, then set the hook.

Eric,
It might be the Firewall we have at work…but I am unable to see the videos. They sound cool!
Maybe throw them up on YouTube and post the links here?

@FishnDave Hopefully I fixed the problem. I had an old version of gopro studio on laptop. It was slow & painful to upload.

Enjoyed your vids!

I have to try carp this year. Tomorrow and Sunday in fact :slight_smile:

Jay

@jdfogle2 You’ll have a blast! Good luck!

Yes, that works, I can see the videos. Sure gives a new appreciation for how you are able to catch these fish. You are really far above the water! I can imagine any sort of breeze would really make presentation and strike detection difficult! Good work!! :smiley:
