Call me crazy but I just bought another canoe

Took the used 13’ Contour canoe that I bought out and I liked it but it is just a little too small for my comfort. Soooo, off to Bass Pro I went to purchase a new 14’ Rogue River 14tk canoe. They have them on sale in their Harrisburg, Pa shop until June 1st. $299.88 for the canoe and bought a motor mount for $89.99. I must be crazy but I couldn’t pass the thing up. I will probably sell the contour but will keep the trolling motor for the new canoe. Guess you all know where I will be this weekend.

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day!

Have a great time, Eric! Enjoy the new boat.

Sounds like a very practical purchase and not at all crazy.

You plan to use it on the Susquehanna at all?

Have Fun!!!

Scott

Man, what a great day. Congrats, I’m jealous!

First I will go to Holman Lake at Little Buffalo State Park so I can get used to how the canoe handles. After that, Susquehanna here I come. I will also fish the lower end of Penns Creek near it’s confluence with the Susquehanna. Great walleye fishing there. There is an open invite for anyone that wants to go along. Just shoot me an email.

Diane,
I seem to recall you posting recently about a type of car top rack you bought but I can’t recall the name. Can you help me out?

Eric, my cartop carrier isn’t made anymore. It 's the kind that swings down to the side of the vehicle so you can load at chest height rather than over your head. Yakima or Thule bought the company but I don’t know whether they’re producing the same rack anymore. I got mine because I can’t lift that much weight. Most folks who go for manufactured racks for tend to go with Yakima or Thule. Good luck!

Diane

Eric,

Per your request --You’re crazy.

Diane,
Yakima, that’s the one. Thank you.

Oldfrat,
Crazy like a fox. A rabid fox, that is.

I bought a Yakama rack and added a piece of cast iron pipe which slides into the Yakama rack. IO extend it and use it to place one end of my kayak or canoe on and then lift the other end. This way I’m only lifting one end at a time. Cost under $10 including a bungie chord to hold it in place when not in use. Works as well as the 80 loader that Yakama or Thule sell.

Hey there Eric,
Congrats on the purchase of your new “ship”. I too am about a month away from my yak purchase and will probably post that event with the same exuberance with which you have announced yours. I’m usually not this controlled. If I want something and if it’s budgetable, it’s in my quiver NOW. In this case, I have to travel about 100 miles to the dealer and I just can’t get away right now. I really don’t need it till mid September for our anual Wyoming vacation anyway.
In any case, good luck to you on your voyages in the canoe. Use it safely .

Mark

I’d rather be in Wyoming!

It TOTALLY costs less than a relatively good handgun.
Enjoy.

There is a fine line between fly fishing and standing in a river waving a stick, and YOU SIR have crossed that line!
