I’ve got an opportunity to be transferred to Calgary. Not that I would base my decision on this alone…no…nah…not me, but I’ve heard good things of the Bow river that runs thru downtown, but what about the surrounding area? How would it compare to south and southwestern Montana?
Thanks,
Ben
The fishing there is great, unless you happen to like panfish or bass or any of the other warmwater species which you won’t find. It’s a great place to live with excellent fishing all around the area. It would take a long time to fish even a fraction of the streams available within a couple of hours of Calgary.
If you really want to know about living in Calgary as an American engineer in general, drop me a line at mike_tonya_a@yahoo.com . I just barely moved back to the US after spending five years there. I would be happy to help you out.
fly fishing in calgary is dead easy. you dont need to look for water that would hold fish, you just rig up a dual nymph system, and cast intot the river, and drift than repeat and you catch fish, some areas are better than others.
flyfishcalgary.com is a great resource, and we are starting a fly tying get togehter so we can all can hang out, and we can go fishing together when it is not to cold, and when it warms in the spring.
Toss me an email nbakker at shaw.ca what oil company you going to work for?
