cabela's in boise

AS I stated on a previous post I went to cabela’s on the 23rd last month and had to order some things there they didn’t have in stock. We leave tomarrow to go fishing and camping. Yesterday before work I called them and talked to a manger who said he would check into it. I got a call back from them and was told to come in and go to the customer service desk and they would be there. We rush in cause we are very busy expecting to pick the stuff up and run. I was a nice dream. 1 hour later and after I made 3 demands for a manager I finally got to leave. The stuff had been in for some time due to the fact they had taken the pontoon boat I ordered and assembled it and hug it from the ceiling for a demo. Everytime I call one it I was told if we haven’t called you it is not in.
I flat out told the manager when someone finally got him, I don’t want monetary compensation I just want to know why I should shop in your store anymore? That one they could not answer. I was given 20% off on some of the items and $50 off on the pontoon boat.
I was there for over a hour trying to get my things. I really don’t know if I will ever go in that store again Their customer service sucks. His only defense was we are really new and have a bunch of new people who don’t know what they are doing.
I am the type of person who will pay a higher price for something if the customer service is excellent. Just thought I would pass this experience on.

You may notice they are not a sponsor here.

I’ve been involved in a few retail store openings in my career. And, while there’s never an excuse for poor customer service, the newness and inexperience of the people you dealt with is a very real problem with new stores of any type, but especially big ones where hundreds of people have to be hired and trained in one go. My advise (for what it’s worth) would be to give them a few months to get their stuff together, then give them another try. If you experience similar problems the next time, then find another place to do business.

I experienced the same thing from all sorts of retailers and manufacturers, it is par for the course these days.

But the fact that Cabela’s offered you discounts on some of the items is a lot more than many other shops would do. It usually just an “I’m sorry” and that’s it.

My local Cabela’s is great and their service and selection is hands down better than any of the fly shops in the area. I’d give them another chance.

Jim

Cabela’s is not a sponsor here by their choice or yours?

It would not be proper for me to answer that question.

Great answer Jim!

acanadian…why don’t you ask Jim Cabela the same question.

Why don’t I ask Jim Cabela? Jim Cabela didn’t make the post, JC did. His post made it sound like Cabela’s was not a sponsor of FAOL because of their bad service. I asked a legitimate question. Sorry, I forgot that Jim was the only one allowed to make sarcastic or slanted remarks. My mistake! Now I guess I?ll join the ranks of the disenfranchised GREATS like Gary Henderson, Roger Stouff, Larry Offner and Allen Podell. SO BE IT? I FALL ON MY SWORD!

Try to understand that sponsorship is by invitation. Often that choice is only based on an opinion, mine. We may decide to not invite sponsors for any of a multitude of reasons.

And just ONE of those reasons could be that a particular potential sponsor may over-weigh the number of existing sponsors of THAT SAME CATEGORY thus creating a conflict within the sponsorship roster. It is the duty of the sponsored organization to tout/push/promote it’s sponsors honestly and conscientiously to the extent of their mutual agreement and to the exclusion of those who are NOT sponsors -sometimes even making “sarcastic” remarks about them. IT’S A BUSINESS.

PS: Acadianfly, THAT must hurt when the sword…

If I have made any remark that was taken as sarcastic about any company, sponsor or not, I apologize. It should not have been made. I do not always make the right decision or say the right things. Cabala’s is a fine company and carries many products of our sponsors. It is actually none of your business why/why not they are or are not a sponsor. Is that understandable?

I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer… but I think I got the big picture.

That, in my opinion, is a great offer. They did’t have to do that. For an hour’s worth of your time, it’s a pretty good return: apology and discount. Unless, of course, you make more than $70 or $80/hour, then it’s not a good deal. But if you do make that much, just order off the phone or computer and have it at your door in two days.

Bamboozle is right: Cabelas has a new store and a WHOLE bunch of inexperienced folks. I was in last Friday, asked if they had a certain shirt in a larger size. The gal on the floor didn’t know how to check other sizes on the computer, however she was a whiz on checking how many were on hand of that smaller size I was holding. (Which, of course, wasn’t my question anyway.)

The Lehi store (our first Cabelas experience) is awesome and we’d make the trip there again next time we’re in SLC. However, the Boise store still is a disappointment. I know it’s a smaller space and they had to move 5 lbs in a 4 lb bag, but in the two trips I’ve been there, I’m feeling crushed. They would have done better by buying out the store next to them and spreading out.

 Geez, cant we all get along? Last time I looked this was JCand LFs clubhouse. There clubhouse, there rules. Accept and move on. Weve got far better things to do

Wait, you mean to tell me that we don’t get to dictate who the sponsors are for this FREE website???

No one dictates who is a Sponsor here, except JC and I.
However, if you have a company or product which you feel would be a good match for our readers, and one which you can personally vouch for, please let us know.

Clyde, I see your in Keizer, been fishing the Abiqua lately? It is one of my favorite searly Steelhead streams. Mostly private property, but you can work wonders with a box of chocolate or a fifth of whiskey.

Dianeid I agree it has been a disappointment. All the hype and it is just a sporting goods store. Every time I have been in there they only have cloths for the perfect (what is perfect)sized person and if you want the low end stuff that doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars you are out of luck. Will I give them another chance yea. The two things that made me mad were 1. when you special order something from them it arrives with a sticker on it stating this item was special ordered for ******. 2. The night this all took place I was told by the manager when I called in that because I was in a hurry he would have the stuff right there for me. Just come in to the store to the customer service desk and he would be waiting. We were getting ready to leave town. You can not put a cost per hour on that.

Jonezee,
When I was a kid, my Dad took me to the Abiqua and Butte. I don’t remember him asking for access permission. At his 80th birthday, we sat in a circle and exchanged stories about Dad.
One of my questions was, “What did you think you were doing taking your sons through ELECTRIC FENCES?”
My brother peed on a electric wire after Dad suggested it. When my brother said this at the party, I was hurt because I never got to pee on a electric fence!
About your reply; Momma said life was like a box of chocolates! You never know what your going to get!
