Anyone have a “fail-safe” burnt orange Kool-Aid formula?
ducksterman- I can’t vouch for this, cuz I haven’t tried it but I saw no one has responded so I’ll throw this out for you to consider. It’s a possible intersection of fly tying, drugs, and rock and roll…
Here’s a color chart you’re probably already familiar with for “pure” flavors:

Rumor has it that rockers Pink and Kurt Cobain used this to dye their hair. It?s a flavor called Tamarindo by Agua Fresca made for Latin Markets, which is brown. To find it you may need to either check out your local bodegas or markets catering to Latinos. Or a search online could hook you up:

Maybe a mixture of a little of this stuff in with an orange Kool Aid will get you what you’re looking for. Put on some Nirvana Unplugged and rock out while you cook it up. Hope this helps…

I would think a mix of say 80% Orange and 20%, more or less of Root Beer should get you in the “Ballpark”.
Of course the sucess of this is worth what you pay for it

Not to take away from the dye hard (pun intended) Kool-Aid dyers, bit I just saw some hackle dyed with Gatoraid. Guy added some vinegar to the gator aid, put in the hackle and nuked it in the microwave for two minutes. Very nice colors.
REE…I’ve wondered about Gatorade…but then figured it would be hard to get real concentrated …plus more costly…
Duck,
Doesn’t take much, from what I understand. Plus, on a hot day you can suck on a fly and get your needed ele4ctrolytes.
The blue color I saw was from the small bottles that come in a six pack. One bottle and some vinegar did a grizzly neeck just fine.
