Bright Idea???

I dreaded doing this, but I finally found my way to the Gas Station today. I still had about 1/3 of a tank, so I hoped for the best. The Attendant handed me my reciept (I was afraid to look at it) I took a breath and looked and it said $48.00! :frowning: , Soooo I would like to know what you think of my plan for Raffling Off my most treasured fly rod. The FIRST fly rod I ever owned! The yr was 65 (12 yrs old)
The rod, Wright & McGill, Favorite, 8 ft., Line 7, metal ferrule.
Most of the wrappings are still intact. Cork looks old and sorry to say the metal label is gone. The reel seat is metal and blue in color.
Brand New cost, $12.00
I would appreciate your comments (Don’t Hold Back!)
Of course I’m kidding, but it was my Big Idea for the day!
Doug

Well, Doug, you must remember your rod is a lifetime investment…can you say that about your gas?

Gas is just about as good of a investment as buying a car. :frowning:

Dshock
I went to Or. last year and couldnt believe that you still have attendants at gas stations up there! Got gas an dcouldnt believe the price for it!!!
You gotta be kidding about getting rid of your gear? Dont do it.
Get a motorcycle, they get a lot better mileage and if you get a dirt bike you can take it on the trails to the crick  . I still have my first fly rod and its a clunker but it’ll be one of the last things to go.
Get a bike and thumb your nose at em. 8)

p.s I typically pay out well over $60 for a tank of gas in my pickup. yeah I liked a v-8, wow, the torque, the acceleration, the speed , wind whipping across my scalp(Im bald so the wind in my hair thing is a memory),getting shoved back in the seat. Oh boy, oh boy.
That was day one , after that I hate the reciepts too. :frowning:

Perch,
Did you look at the Vespa Scooter site?? Very handsome machine!
As far as gas Attendants are concerned, we Oregonians demand someone pumps our gas and the Sales Tax has been shot down more often than a unlucky pigeon!!!
About having hair issues, What is going on on top of Donald Trumps head???
Doug

Doug,
I say ignore your own advice and keep the rod. Here is why:

I took your “Expert” advice and put a Bomz Racing Short Ram Air Intake on my “new to me” ZX2. Now there is a problem with the accelerator. Every time I take off it goes right to the floor boards! The front suspension goes to the top of it’s travel and the automatic transmission grabs rubber in first and second gear. Try turning up the stereo under those conditions! :? 8)

If I am a good boy I average over 30 mpg. However, I am re-discovering the fact that there are times when it’s very fun to be, at least a little, bad. Then I average 28 mpg. Still well over 30 mpg on the highway.

Actually, Doug, I owe you a thank you. You have helped take me back to those days when I owned my 1965, 289 H.O., top loader four speed, silver blue notch back, pony packaged Mustang! What a Hoot! 8)

Well, perhaps you should take your own advice. :?  If I am going to pay this much for gas, I am going to drive something that is fun to drive.

Eric,
My idea was my latest stupid joke. I wouldn’t sell my old rod for all the tea in China!
As you know I do volunteer work and because I’m a former workaholic, I decided to add another job and that is Volunteer Aftermarket Car Parts Guru on FAOL BB.
JC’s convertible was the FIRST car I worked on and Eric your car was the second.
I am sorry your having trouble with your Air Intake System, but you were supposed to buy all the parts I found for you!
I have loved cars my whole life and I get a kick out of seeing cars that are customized. Of course it is painless if it’s the other guy spending the money.
I want people to be happy so if that means they have to drive around with spinning hubcaps, then so be it!
Eric, IF I could afford it I would buy a Honda Pilot or a Civic SI.
This is my 14th yr with my Dodge Van and I’m not looking to divorce it.
One of my all time favorites is when someone restores a 56, 57 Chevy, Pontiac GTO, Mustang, or a Cadillac.
That is a labor of love and it takes a total commitment.
One car that I think is a work of art is the Porsche 911. I could never have one because I would be afraid it would get a scratch on it and it would have to stay in my personal museum (garage)
In closing, I am still waiting to hear if JC as installed a TURBO on his Sebring???
Doug

Doug,
Whatever am I going to do with you. I do appreciate your sense of humor and definitely do not sell that rod!

Now…you asked for it…you got it:

Tada! I have yet to add the finishing touches but it works great! 8)

TOTALLY AMAZING!!!
I better keep track of the parts I recommend so I can hit up the Manufacturer for a kickback!
