OK, I havent went yet for myself but what I seen out there today assures me of victory tomorrow IMO…lots of bones and lots of tarpon…had the unfortunate fisherman miss the hookset on both fish but it was very exciting anyway…tomorrow will be the same tides only better…I am confident enough to go ahead and post the report now…if I fail(never happen) I will rely on this weeks client for fish
went out this morning on the retro tide…started off with swarm of bones which I quickly took the lead fish…good fight with 3 runs…immediately the flats jump back with tarpon swarm…fish from 20lbs to 60lbs were now crashing bait all around me…I grabbed the 10wt and unloaded the longest and fastest cast I could…it was slammed by a mogen tarpon which rose up and cleared about 5ft out of the water and the hook went flying…no time to recast because now the permit are bearing down on me fast…they are zig zagging like a z-bank shot(old school foosball term) and there are enough of them I cant tell whats going on exactly except the wakes are coming right at me…I throw the fly leading the fish by 8ft but knowing it will be a direct hit because of the time it takes to land…it is indeed on the money and I let it fall…I see a boil and I set the hook but something was wrong…ended up with a bonnethead shark so my Grand Slam got away again…here are a few shots…

very nice!
Cordell,
Did you ever get them T-shirts for that Electric Dread :tieone: yet??
Seriously … I still want one if you get any of them.
hello Gil…not yet…didnt get very good response but I actually do have request…kinda like my flys…got sidelined by ongoing dental work which I am still enjoying:mad: my new website is under construction and soon to be unveiled and it will have any and all details…when it happens I will send you one…Gil, you should come down here and fish sometime, its on me if scheduling allows
Cool … I’m in Marathon the second week in August. If I can break away from the wife and the other 4 couples for a half day or so I just might take you up on that.
Had your card in my wallet you sent me with the crab patterns you tied in one of my swaps. Did not get a chance to call you nor do a whole lot of anything.
First night there I climbed out of the pool and hit some tile with wet feet. It was like I had rollerblades or ice skates on. My feet went out from under me and I cracked my head (and the rest of my body) on the concrete and tile pool deck.
Spent the next few hours (til 5:30am going through CT Scans and various other probings and proddings) at Fisherman’s Hospital in Marathon.
Wound up with a mild concussion and various other parts of my body wracked. Right ribs and left knee still hurt. Neck and head OK … or so they seem.
Sure put a damper on my plans, especially calling you if I could get away. I don’t think there would have been a problem there.
Not enough damage to my body to own the house but the rental company said all medical bills will be paid and they’ve offered my wife and I another week in the Keys for free since my vacation was basically ruined.
I did get to go help catch some bugs towards the end of the week. Also did some fishing on the Atlantic side. That was about the only two days I did anything. Oh yeah, tried to snorkel Sombrero Reef but couldn’t for the life of me get my dive mask to stop leaking. Oh well. There’ll be better days for sure.
One day Cordell … one day.
p.s. I’ll even settle for Peacocks. ![]()
dang Gil…that sounds like a rough trip…I have almost done the same thing on wet tile…in Alaska EVERYBODY will take at least 3 falls per winter on the ice…I have cleaned my clock many times and some left me laying there for a long time…well you didnt miss anything here except WIND…offer still stands for round 2
Hey Gil (it’s Ozmo)
I’m lurking again and just saw this post. Hope you’re doing okay with the head crack. We need to catch up. It’s been too long since the mudpuddle. ![]()
And Cordell, nice fish as usual!
Ken
You’re so right Ken. When was the last time we saw each other? Was that the year your “cousin” was it, came down for 'Poontangle??
You through makin’ babies??? ![]()
Gil
p.s. I still think there were fish in that puddle. ha!!
Yeah, it probably was the year my cousin Mike came down for PT.
And yup, I think we’re done making babies.
Three now - 8 mos, 3 yrs, and almost 7 yrs. Keeps one busy. The plus side is the 7yr old and the 3 yr old like to fish. The negative side is there isn’t much time to go fishing! LOL
