Well, we headed out fairly early on my birthday to hit the trout water for a few hours. Scott and I went and dragged along my oldest son and the fishing/hunting dog.
Scott started out pretty well and was catching a few. He even decided to pose for show:
They were pretty decent fish, even for stockers:
The fishing dog decided to help out with the monsters that were putting up such a fight:
I finally made a hookset at the end of the day right behind the stocking truck:
Nice Report,Don and “HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY”!
At least, you fished "AFTER’ the stocking truck!
(When Dshock sees a stocking truck, he usually will ask if he can “get up, on the top” and then he’ll fish down into the truck, itself, thru the top loading port!)
I will claim that I was just missing all of my hook sets until after the stocking truck passed us by.
Scott was doing quite well, even before the truck. We were actually afraid when the big blue Dodge pulled up that we might have unknowingly crossed onto private land. (Not all of the fences are well maintained in the area.) We spent about a half hour talking to the gentleman from the trout rearing station that sits about a half mile above where we were fishing at the time. Then we skipped the pool where he emptied his net and tried above. Caught a few that had been in the water for at least a week, then came back and hit the pool where he had stocked, just for fun. They supposedly averaged 12", but I woulda guessed closer to 13 or a little more. Then again, I think the ruler I use while fishing is made of cotton and might have shrunk.
Oh, and here is what it looked like back at the beginning of November:
Looks like you a very nice birthday and some productive fishing. Just one question. What is that ugly white stuff all over the ground and in the bushes? We don’t get too much of that in SC whatever it is. 8T
8T; What is thaat ugly white stuff? you ask…Well here in Southern Oregon we get “lowuid sunshine” but that aint it…Back when I lived in the high desert country we saw a lot of that dang stuff, heck, we even shoveled it !! I think it’s fluffy sunshine, maybe… looks a little cold for my taste (unless the fish are hittin)…ModocDan
I, believe, all that stupid “white stuff, clinging to the bushes and lying on the ground”, being referred to, is often called “snow”. (However, don’t ask an Eskimo what it’s called, I’ve heard they have 103 names for it!).
However, here in Oregon it’s called “Solidified Fog”. Or, “Slog” for short. It looks really, really, stupid when applied to the sand on the beach, so we’ve outlawed it here, for the most part, although, at least once every winter, we still get a dusting of the stuff. Sure gets the bikini wearing-volleyball playing-set a tad upset and nervous when it happens, too!!
I think I would have to classify at least SOME of that white stuff as slog!
When we got up that morning it was very, um, brisk. Yeah, that’s it! Brisk! I don’t remember the actual temp, but as you can see in this picture, it was cold enough that the moisture in the air had been freezing out directly onto any surface it could find.
Oh, I suppose I had better give credit to Scott. He brought the camera and took most of the pictures!
