Birmingham, AL flyfishing

I’m going to be in Birmingham June 15-22 or so. I’m not going to have much free time, but thought I’d check if there was any good flyfishing in the neighborhood of any variety.

Unless you know a fly fisherman in the area I would recommend that you contact Deep South Fly Shop in Birmingham. They will be able to direct you to lakes and river access points. The Cahaba River runs through Birmingham, but I am not familiar with access points in that area. Oak Mountain State Park is in the area and has lake fishing and boats for rent. I have never fished there, but it looks pretty good.

I grew up in Birmingham. No trout to be found, but there are lots of lakes nearby for bluegill or bass.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll definitely call the fly shop in Birmingham. It appears the best trout fishing nearby is the tailwaters of Smith Lake about an hour north of Birmingham. There is a flyshop in Jasper there: [url=http://www.riversideflyshop.com/:96926]http://www.riversideflyshop.com/[/url:96926]
