I’ve been tying and fishing Gurgle Pops in size 12, 8, and 2. Last week, I bought a pack of 1/0 hooks by accident. I tried to tie a couple Gurgle Pops on those, but they didn’t look quite right (didn’t cut the foam wide enough).
I might try to tie a 1/0 again, but instead of yellow, go with all black, and use it at Dusk/Dawn.
Now if a gurgle pop is what I think it is then I have seen them tied 2/0 for saltwater. The fly I am thinking of is called the gurggler so I might be wrong. Even at that if you use the correct dimensions it should look good.
This was something I assembled for a friend who had been ask to help reduce the number of bass in a farm pond. It’s not a gurgles, it’s my version of a snagproof frog from craft foam. It’s the biggest thing I have ever tied but it cast remarkably well with a 6 wt.
