Nice! I played hooky yesterday morning and locked on to about 20 of the same size and a couple of LMB. The nice thing was seeing how big they were as one of my neighbors feeds them in the afternoon( I live by a small lake). I weighed one of the many at 1 lb and lost a big one towards the end. That slab side makes them feel like bigger fish. They were agressive taking my fly too and set the hooks themselves… It’s warming up. It’s nice to see my 4 wt doubled over only to land a bream. I just love the way LMB dance.

Is there a technical or slang term for that forehead bluegill get as they get larger?

I guess forehead is as good as any. Nice fish.

Man! That’s a mutant! Congrats!

Hey Wulff,

My buddy and I got into a mess of those yesterday as well.G
It was our first trip of the season. Alas, although I took my
digital camera, the charge let me down. Going again Monday
weather permitting. Looking for some of those platter sized
red eared sun fish. Had several cooperate yesterday. Warm
regards, Jim

I was out today and got into a school of big Bream. I was using a 5X tippet and it broke it off. Must of have been a 2.5 lb beauty. But within 5 minutes I hooked into another good one. Guess what I got my fly back. Yes sir it was the same fish going for round two.

The slang for those large bluegills is “bull bluegill.”

That is why you read to turn loose the bulls.

Rick

The slang that we use for those forehead bumps is humps. When you start to get into the bigger gills you describe tham a single humpers, double humpers, etc. When they so big that you cant get your hand around them, we call them ttty bream, 'cause you have to hold them against yout ttty to get the hook out.

Kevin

Kevin,

Funny you should talk about T*tty Bluegill. The person fishing with me on Friday morning used the same expression. I had never heard of it before. Then all of a sudden you are using the same expresion this morning.

Small world and FAOL has it all right here.

We call’em shoulders!

Got into a mess of them this weekend. They were all about 3/4 the size of the one above. I think I caught about 40 fo them.
Eyed-wooly bugger and then bee pattern after they got wise to the bugger. I even caught a bass on the bee!

In my ponds, spring full moon times are the best to catch those big bream. The one below hit a #8 Prince

What a monster! That must be one of those Green Sunfish / Permit Hybrids.

kevin, you just changed my life. Much more palatable than catching bulls! Here’s to the EAST SIDERS! JGW
