Big Bear Lake ,CA

I’m wondering about the fishing at Big Bear Lake, CA.

What is it’s prime fishing?..how is it for trout?
Can it be fished from a float tube?
What months are best? [It strikes me that perhaps it is too cold up there from say now till next May???

Prime fish are trout. You can float tube for sure. I haven’t tried it, because i’m new to FF, but that’s what most of the FF is here. The best months are spring to fall. The lake freezes in the winter.

I understand there can be some fishing for bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and carp and a few areas that can be waded too. This has been gleaned from some articles in California Fly Fisher mag over the years as well as an entry in the book “Fly Fishing Southern California’s Lakes and Streams” by Richard Alden Bean.

I’ve heard that too, but i’ve never caught anything but trout there.
