I need it for smallmouth and pike patterns. Anyone care to weigh in on this? I know there are plenty, but the only thing I’ve ever tie with is bucktail for Clouse Minnows.
Senyo’s Laser Dubbing makes good heads on baitfish patterns for Smallies & Pike. Or FlyFishFood’s Monster Dubbing. For tail materials, marabou, rabbit strips, craft fur…all have great motion in the water.
Congo hair from Fly Tyers Dungeon, Steve Ferrar’s flash blend are two I use.
Ooh, nice flies, Ralph. ![]()
Nice Ralph. Is Super Hair stiff? How is it in the water? Does it have much movement?
Thanks
This is a good article i think the best synthetic comes down to the actual size of the fly and application

Not too much movement. But it doesnt tangle and has good flash. And it blends with other materials like bucktail and crystal flash.
Thanks Ed.
I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to Lazer Dub for smaller patterns- 1 to 3 inches and Mirror Image which I flash blend for flies 3 to 6 inches. For anything larger I’ll use something like Unique Hair or Fuzzy Fiber.
Here’s a couple. The larger one is tied with Mirror Image, the smaller one with Laser Dub.
This one’s tied with Laser Dub
Here’s one I tied up for pike using Fuzzy Fiber.
