Bergman Wet Fly Swap Cancelled

Well it’s that time of the year again when I post my annual Wet fly swap. This year being the fourth year in a row I have held this swap. The swap will be for any Ray Bergman Pattern from Trout, Forgotton flies, With Fly Plug and Bait and lastly Just fishing. The swap will be open to a total of 15 tiers. That means each participant will have to tie a total of 14 flies of the pattern they choose. Sign up dead line for the swap will be Tuesday October 31, 2006. All flies must be sent to me no later than December 1, 2006. When signing up for the swap, please provide me the pattern or let me know you will be providing it to me shortly. Any one who has been in my wet flies swaps has not been disapointed and know how fun and challanging this swap always is. In advance I say thanks to all who sign up and as always I look forward to seeing your work. I have changed the rules of the swap to generate a little more interest.

                         Thank You
                          Andy B

Ok, in the swap so far are the following tiers and their patterns:

  1. Andy B Tying the Tycoon

  2. Flyfishmichigan Tying the Trout Fin

  3. Mr Blur Tying TBD

  4. OLB tying theHapatcong

Only 11 spots left open

Count me in . . . I’ll tie Bergman’s ‘Mrs. Haase’ pattern.

Let me correct that (I should read the instructions a bit closer!). I’ll tie the “Trout Fin”.

Joe

Hi Joe:

Welcome aboard, I have added your name and pattern to the list. The Trout Fin is a really nice looking tie that catches fish.

I’d love to join this as I was in the previous swaps and loved them. problem is I’ve never tied a married wing and have no idea where to attain the materials to do so…

mgj

I see that I may exclude some good tyers fom this wet fly swap by making it a Married or compound wing. So I have changed the rules to be any Ray Bergman pattern found in Trout, With Fly Plug and Bait, Just Fishing and lastly of Course Forgotten Flies. I want people to join and have fun. Hope this stimulates a few more tyers.

                         Andy B

that certainly makes the parameters more within my capabilities, but through the help of one of those good tyers I intend to tie a married wing fly of some sort. I’d imagine dependent upon the feathers I can buy or dye.

nonetheless, I’m doing it.

I’ve learned a lot over the years jumping in over my head. it’s prolly not time to quit.

thanks.

You know over the years it would’nt be a wet fly swap with out you. Welcome aboard. Just let me know when you decide what pattern that you will be tying.

Andy,

Since I don’t have any of those books can you recommend a source for seeing acceptable patterns to tie. Let me look over some of the patterns, then if there is still a spot open I’ll give it try.

I would like to lock into a pattern and give it a try before committing. I’m always up to a challenge.

Thanks,
Leo C.

Hi Leo:

Try by googling for forgotten flies. This is one of the books I told you about that will have the patterns. Also look in the FAOL archives for wet flies like the Scarlet Ibis, Yellow Sally, The Grizzly King. Let me know if you need more info, I will be happy to help.

Sure sign me up! My class with Don isn’t till February, but there are a few I can tie pretty well.

OLB, your in welcome aboard. Ask Don about me, I am a student of Don’s and he has become a very good friend. I do stop in at Don’s classes on Saturdays to say hello and help Don’s students with the flies they are tying when they get a little stuck. Just let me know which pattern you will be tying.

                          Andy B

Yeah I know who you are. Give me a few hours to make a decision on which pattern I’ll be sending in.

Andy,
I’m gonna tie the Hopatcong. I’m guessing you’d prefer that these were tied on a #6 3399? Or is size up to the tyer?

Thanks,

Alex

OLB, the size and hook are up to you. I fish with size 6 and size 8’s The 3399 I use for tying show flies. My wet flies for fishing are tied on a 3906 which is a much stronger hook. This past Sunday I caught two rainbows on the Hopatcong. Very pretty fly. Thanks again for joining.

Due to lack of participation I have cancelled the swap. I will no longer be holding the swap any more. Thank you for all who did show an interest and I guess it’s time I be on my way out of the FAOL world.
