bass bug taper line for 5wt

Does anyone Know of a bass bug taper made in a 5wt config. I have looked at the Scientific anglers lines and looks like they start in 6 as well as the Rio bass bug line. I did see the Clouser line from rio in a 5wt. Does any one have experience with the clouser line in the 5wt config? Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

A 6wt bbt is the lowest I’ve seen. As an alternative, I would suggest Scientific Anglers Headstart. I use it on my 8’ 5wt for throwing small poppers.

I second the recommendation of the SA Headstart line. The taper is almost identical to the Bass Bug Taper, it has the same AST coating as the rest of their mastery lines, and it sells for about $35.

I have an SA Mastery bass bug taper in an 8 wt and an SA Mastery Headstart in a 7 wt. The head is a bit shorter on the Headstart, but I would never spend the difference again.

As stated above, the Headstart line is a good choice. The Clouser line is basically the same thing. Also look at Rio’s nymphing line. It may do the trick for ya too. Just look at the taper diagram of some lines and compare them to the taper of a bass bug line, and you’ll find what you’re looking for.

If you feel real adventurous you could always get a few level lines and splice them together to make a homemade 5wt Bass Bug line. If not I would recomend the SA headstart.
