Baghdad Flyfishing Program

I was glancing through the latest issue of Fly Fisherman today and read a short article about a Navy lieutenant currently stationed in Baghdad who started up a flyfishing class several months ago. He has been teaching classes on casting, flytying, etc., and he and his students have been catching carp and some other type of fish native to Iraq. There was a web site mentioned in the article, but I left my magazine at the office. They have been receiving some help in the way of materials and books from some of the flyfishing companies. Interesting article, and sounds like a good way for some people in a stressful situation to get in some good rest and relaxation.

Ive been reading about this on my other forum. A lot of them are getting into all types of fishing. One military base is on a lake and the soldiers are trying to organize a fishing event. I think its great. If anyone deserves a nice quiet day of fishing, its them.

The Lieutenant the started the school is now on his way home and a new instructor has taken the reins. I hope to have the chance to meet and fish with the Lieutenant in May.
