Backyard Critters, August 2012

Took the camera to the back yard this weekend, and photographed some of the critters there. If interested, check out the pics on my blog:

Here’s a “teaser”:

How many of you MISSED seeing the Praying Mantis in the picture at first?

Feel free to post pics of YOUR backyard critters!

Backyard critter…

I went out yesterday and saw a Hummingbird Moth. It is about two inches long and is identical looking as a Hummingbird. At first I thought it was just a small Hummingbird until I got real close then wondered what it would be. I said to myself, well, it looks like a Hummingbird so, maybe it’s called a Hummingbird Moth. I came inside and typed in Hummingbird Moth and sure enough, there was such a thing and so many diffent kinds.
Here is a link about them. The one in the picture that is red and green is the one I saw. Absolutely beautiful

When I was a youngster, we had a fair number of those Hummingbird Moths around the flowers. I haven’t seen any in many years, though. They ARE pretty cool!

Sasquatch??

…Kuma

Oh man I love those dogs. When I was in college I worked for an industrial paint shop. One of our clients had two of those dogs. He built a cart for the dogs to pull his two daughters around the yard. They were gentle giants.

I’m sure like most the praying mantis went unnoticed at first glance.

Here is a back yard critter from NZ, but I have to admit the hedge he is on is in my front yard!

All the best.
